. . . it was his sincere intention to save as much of the front façade of the school as possible, and that he envisions a state of the art facility that would incorporate the original building and the 2006 addition together with the proposed new addition, which would essentially insure another one hundred year Adamson reign as the best school in Dallas. Adamson - Oak Cliff

Mr. Garza is an Oak Cliff native who attended Winnetka Elementary and Greiner Middle School before his family moved to North Dallas where he attended a private high school. He was very understanding of our deep rooted affection and family ties with the building and agreed to our request for his staff to begin providing us with regular updates as bond proposal planning and architectural meetings occur. These meetings have not begun as of yet because the first course of action in his words would  be the acquisition of up to two city blocks surrounding Adamson to accommodate all the project components which would include much needed athletic fields and training facilities. I just hope we can retain the current coaching staff of dedicated and highly appreciated coaches long enough to take advantage of the of the new facilities and to restore the school’s proud athletic past.

In addition the foundation beneath the front of the existing building is in critical need of major repair as we have been aware of for several years, and he cautioned us that it may call for some extreme measures in order to save portions of that part of the school, but that every effort would be made to save the entire front façade. We will pass along updates via this web site and The Acorn.

How can you help us in this endeavor? Simply by becoming a member of The Adamson Alumni Association or if you’re already a member, by sending in your renewal form along with the $15 annual fee. We are totally dependent on membership dues and individual donations which enable us to continue publishing the quarterly Acorn and hosting the Annual All Class Reunion / Golf Tournament, along with covering the mounting operational costs.  This years’ 8th Annual Reunion will take place on Saturday, April 25th, and we are encouraging everyone to make a special effort to attend in order to show strong support for the Save Our School campaign, and to participate in what has been characterized by past participants as an annual dose of Leopard Esprit de Corp and that unexplainable warm feeling of returning to your teenage roots.

Please make it a point to mail us back the registration form for the Alumni Reunion, along with your $10 check at your earliest possible convenience so that we can make all the necessary arrangements for what may turn out to be the largest gathering of former Leopards in many many years. Our fabulous barbeque lunch begins at noon in the cafeteria, followed by a lively program in the auditorium, and concludes with the very popular tour of Oak Cliff in a modern tour bus, highlighted by a visit to Mr. Adamson’s former residence on N. Montclair St., and drive-bys to all our old familiar hangouts. Relax…all of our drive-bys are of a very gentle nature and truly memorable.

One last note: If you are interested in participating in a conversational discussion relevant to the Save The School project, the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League will open their doors at their monthly meeting on March 11 at 7pm, to be held at Cliff Café, next to the popular and recently restored Belmont Hotel located at the intersection of Ft. Worth Ave. and Sylvan Ave. Everyone is welcome.
